Legal Humor
Pennsylvania lawyer James Sposito sued the publisher of a phone book in 1989 for defamation of character and breach of contract.
Sposito paid for an ad in the phone book promoting his specialty—personal injury cases. The ad was supposed to be illustrated with a picture of two vehicles crashing. Unfortunately, the vehicles next to his name in the ad were ambulances. |

Updates Review
ProDoc Updates
2010 Updates
We will provide our usual legislative update shipments in June and in September for new legislation effective July 1, 2010 and October 1, 2010 respectively. We will also provide the end of 2010 FLSSI1 updates.
And, we will continue our commitment to provide you updates to ProDoc forms as agency changes and case law changes dictate. We will also ship form changes we make as a result of customer suggestions and enhancements we make in both ProDoc and our automated forms.
February WebUpdates
The WebUpdates we released in February were:
- Mortgage Foreclosures - We revised the Complaint and Final Judgment of Foreclosure forms pursuant to a Florida Supreme Court decision. We also added
three new forms: a Summons for state-wide use and Final Judgments of Foreclosure for both Miami-Dade and Hillsborough counties.
- Litigation - We updated a statutory cite in the Statutory PIP Demand letter.
- Family Law – We
updated the Release/Revocation of Release of Claim to Exemption for Child by Custodial Parent, form 8332, pursuant to an IRS revision. We also replaced the Order Appointing Parenting Coordinator form by the new Order of Referral to Parenting Coordinator (new from the Florida Supreme Court). Finally, we added the new Response by Parenting Coordinator form and revised the Motion to Appoint Parenting Coordinator form.
March WebUpdates
At the time of writing this WebNotes we had not finalized our update plans for March. We will apprise you here next month of WebUpdates we publish this month.

Customer Questions from the Last WebNotes
The following questions were from ProDoc customers like you in response to last month's ProDoc WebNotes.
Q: Our office primarily uses Macs. However, I have two PCs on the network just to run ProDoc. How close are you to offering the Mac version? Is there any chance that we could try-out the Mac prototype before it is offered to the public? If not, would ProDoc run properly on a Mac using the PC compatibility software?
A: A version of ProDoc that runs natively on a Mac is at least two years away. However, we have recently completed testing of using ProDoc on a Microsoft® Windows® operating system running on Parallels Desktop® for Mac and we recommend that as an interim option for Mac users.
Q: I have changed my main computer.
How do I transfer all my ProDoc stuff onto it?
A: While it is a pretty easy process to do so, we recommend that you call our Tech Support team (it is free) at 800-759-5418, option 3, and ask for assistance. That person will assist you with the data transfer from your old computer to your new one and will also assist you if you need help with registering ProDoc on your new computer.
Q: When will you have immigration forms?
A: An immigration volume is on our radar but there are no immediate plans to develop one. So, we cannot give you a definitive answer on when to expect this volume.
Q:
We have several forms that are formatted and revised for our personal needs, but after each update, the changes are not saved and I have to re-format and re-revise those changes. Is there some way to save those revisions/formats and keep them from being over-written by the update?
A:
Yes. The solution is to save the modified master templates with a word processor file extension such as .wpd, .doc, .docx. You will find more information about this in our TechTip on modifying ProDoc master templates.
Q: My question is whether the updates (when uploaded) will automatically change the existing documents for each case? When I open the document and indicate "update", I do not see a change.
A: When WebUpdate updates your ProDoc and your ProDoc volumes, it only updates the form templates. It does not in any way affect any documents you have already generated and saved as finished word processor or PDF documents.
Q: I do not recall getting the December CD update for ProDoc. How can I tell if it is installed?
A: After you open ProDoc, look in the extreme upper left corner of your monitor. If your ProDoc is current you will see ProDoc version 5.27 and your firm name. If the version number is less than 5.27 you do not have the current version installed. This will remain as the current version until we release the next major update.

ProDoc Customer Support: Customizing the Formatting of Your ProDoc Documents
The ProDoc Document Assembly program allows you to easily customize the formatting of your documents. This feature is extremely flexible; you can change the formatting for individual documents, for all the documents in a specific volume, or for every document you produce.
Used as shipped, with preset defaults, ProDoc produces well-formatted and legally precise finished documents. However, if you find yourself regularly changing document formatting in your word processor before printing, it would save you time to customize the forms before you assemble the documents.
You can change margins and fonts, include headers with your firm’s letterhead and even graphics, add footers, change line spacing, or change paragraph justification, to name just a few options. These changes are saved in a configuration file which ProDoc imports into your finished document. You can change these settings once, and the finished documents will always include the changes you’ve made.

Tech Tip: Reading Assistant for the Sight Impaired
Intel® has created a device to help the sight-impaired read books and documents. There are more than a few sight-impaired ProDoc users that we are aware of, and you may have sight impaired family or friends, for whom this might be welcome news. Essentially, you place the device over a book/page/document to be read and it uses scanning, OCR, and text-to-voice technology to convert written words to speech.

Tech Tip: Secret Low Price for Stamps.com
If you're a small law firm and you've been searching for a better way than carrying an inventory of traditional stamps, you've probably run across Stamps.Com.
However, perhaps you were put off by the $15.99 monthly fee.
It turns out that Stamps.Com offers an unpublicized, low-frills option for $9.99 per month. This enables you to order postage online and print postage on envelopes after they are stuffed and sealed, just like a postage meter.
Since there is no information on their web site about this low cost option, attorneys report that you must sign up for a regular plan and then change it. You will find more information about changing a Stamps.Com plan here. The reports we received from attorneys is that they called the toll free Customer Support number provided on that web page to change their plans.
