Legal Humor

The following classified ad appeared in a 1989 issue of the Texas Bar Journal:

"Small, highly disorganized... law firm, having characteristically waited past the last minute, frantically seeks associate with two to four years experience in general business representation and business litigation. Successful applicant must to be able to function with little or no guidance in extremely chaotic environment, and be able to stand long periods of indecision punctuated by short bursts of frantic activity... Toleration of tobacco smoke required. Affinity for hard liquor is recommended... Free parking ... Only the stouthearted need apply."

Coming Updates

Soon, we'll ship you an update containing 25 revised forms in the following volumes:

Family Law - We're updating the Change of Address and Request for Copy of Tax Return forms from the IRS and 8 UIFSA forms revised by the controlling agency.

Litigation - We're updating the Federal Civil Cover Sheet and the Bankruptcy Proof of Claim form to match changes in the forms issued by the agencies. And, we're updating four Pattern Jury Charges for Products Liability cases to conform to a recent Texas Supreme Court decision.

Adoptions - We're updating the Acknowledgment of Paternity Inquiry Request form to match the new form from the State of Texas. Also, we're increasing the field size for children's names to allow for longer names to be entered into your forms.

Business Organizations - We're updating eight forms to provide all information included in revised Secretary of State forms.

WebUpdate - Finally, the long-awaited ProDoc WebUpdate makes its Texas debut. This feature enables your ProDoc to automatically update itself when you open ProDoc. Now, we can automatically provide updates to your ProDoc document assembly program, as well as to the ProDoc volumes and PowerPacks to which you subscribe.

In order to use this feature, however, we need to update your account - and you've probably been receiving emails, letters, and maybe even phone calls about it. If you have not already updated your ProDoc account information, please call us at 866-299-6608 or email us.

eFiling Tip - Save Time by eFiling from ProDoc

If you've been eFiling through the state eFiling system (TexasOnline), chances are that you've been doing so directly from our eFiling web site, www.prodocefile.com. And, there is nothing wrong about going directly there.

However, there is a significant benefit to eFiling through ProDoc, particularly for your first eFiling in a case. By eFiling through ProDoc, client and case information pre-loads on our web site for you instead of you having to manually enter it—saving you time and the risk of errors in data entry.

ProDoc Customer Support: Creating Form Sets

Forms sets enable you to select an entire grouping of commonly used documents with only a mouse-click, instead of requiring you to select each document individually to generate in one ProDoc document assembly session.

For instance, for family law matters, you might create a form set you name Contested Divorce containing the following forms:

Original Petition for Divorce, Temporary Orders,
Motion for Temporary Orders, Motion to Extend Temporary Restraining Order, and
Temporary Restraining Order & Order Setting Hearing, Order on Motion to Extend Temporary Restraining Order.
Notice of Hearing for Temporary Orders,

Or, for your real estate matters, you might create a form set you name Residential Closing Docs that contains these forms:

Deed of Trust, Warranty Deed with Vendor's Lien.
Promissory Note (Real Estate Lien Note), and

You can create as many different form sets as you wish in any volume. If you are not now using form sets in ProDoc, you are wasting some of its incredible productivity capability for your firm.

Tech Tip: Networking Made Easy

If there is more than one person in your firm, networking can make it more efficient - there is no question about that. This is especially true for ProDoc and SOS® users. Networking enables everyone in your firm to share ProDoc case data and documents, SOS calendars, billing information, client information, etc.

But, until now, setting up and maintaining a network was beyond the capabilities of most attorneys. However, Network Magic™ Pro may have just changed that. This is an intuitive program that handles all network connections and monitoring for you. And, at $49 for up to 8 computers, it's a bargain even when compared to hiring your neighbor's teen son to set up and maintain your network.

Tech Tip: Manage Your eMail - File 'em Just Like Your Paper Filing System

QuickFile™ 4Outlook - Lawyers Edition provides a great tool that enables you to file your email in Outlook just like your paper filing system. You don't have to change anything about your present system.

Their claim is that: "... it’s the ONLY email management solution for lawyers that solves all the problems, yet does not require you to change the way you file client/case records. You simply plug it in and two new buttons are added to your Outlook screen."
