ProDoc Now Part of Thomson Reuters™

By now, you’ve probably heard that Thomson West™, now Thomson Reuters, recently acquired ProDoc. And, you probably have several questions and concerns. Here is some news that may be of interest to you:

Short-Term Plans
West recognizes that we have a high-quality product and the worst thing they could do is to fix what isn’t broken. So, they are committed to maintaining the high quality of our product and customer service.

Longer-Term Plans
West intends to provide us their vast content resources so we can expand the breadth and depth of ProDoc volumes.

Subscription Plans and Pricing
Customer retention is the highest priority for West. There are no current plans to increase the price of ProDoc products for our existing subscribers, nor of altering the number of your user licenses.

Customer Support
In the short term, continue to call us at 800-759-5418 for ProDoc customer support questions. However, Customer Support will move to the corporate headquarters soon.

West acknowledges Customer Support made mistakes on the recent purchase of another software product and are determined not to repeat those mistakes. For instance, they are retaining a number of our Customer Support team members to whom the West support team can escalate any particularly challenging issues. Our team members are undergoing a detailed and intensive training plan that West provides for all of their Customer Support teams.

While calls will soon be routed to the Customer Support teams in Eagan, our technical and development staff at ProDoc will remain in San Antonio and will always be available to escalate issues and answer questions.

Additionally, West has a very large and professional Customer Support staff. Having them support ProDoc will allow us to offer broader and more consistent hours of support.

Training
ProDoc training will continue to be free. Call us at 800-759-5418 to set up your free ProDoc training.

Access to Our Attorney Developers
Yes, our attorney development staff will remain in San Antonio and will be available for your questions about our content, just like they are today.

Our Home Office
West's history shows a clear pattern of maintaining the home office of companies they acquire in their existing locations. Accordingly, we have received assurances that our location will remain right here where we’ve always been.

Undoubtedly, there will be changes in the future. However, West is committed to keeping the spirit of ProDoc going. We at ProDoc look forward to continue serving you for many years to come.

Alert: Your ProDoc May Be Expiring Soon!

If you did not install the most recent ProDoc update you received in May, your ProDoc will expire at the end of July. And, every day that you open ProDoc during the month of July you will receive a countdown of the days remaining until it expires.

If you did not install the update, or if you did not install it on every computer running ProDoc, we encourage you to do so today. This will go a long way in preventing the stress users report as they begin the dreaded expiration countdown.

There is another major benefit you will experience from installing that update. We included our new WebUpdate feature with that shipment. After you install the update, future ProDoc updates will be simple.

In fact, you won't have to do a thing. Instead, ProDoc will contact our server over the Internet and automatically update itself when there is something new for your subscription. This happens each time you open ProDoc.

We already released WebUpdate in California and Florida prior to releasing it in Texas. We have had virtually no problems reported and we've actually completed a couple of form updates in those states using WebUpdate. So, we are comfortable in assuring there are no significant issues with installing and using WebUpdate.

How to Tell If You Installed the May 2008 Update

After you open ProDoc, look in the upper left corner of your monitor. You should see ProDoc Version 5.10. If you see any other version you have not installed the most recent version of ProDoc and we urge you to do so today.

Be sure that you installed the update on any other laptop computers or desktop computers in which ProDoc is stored but that you don't use on a regular basis.

Your Computer Must be Connected to the Internet

WebUpdate only works when your computer is already connected to the Internet. So, if you use a dial-up connection, connect to the Internet before starting ProDoc.

Coming Updates

Summer
You asked for it and we listened! In this shipment we reviewed the suggestions that customers sent us and implemented as many as we could.

Here are the highlights:

Attorney-Client - We're adding a ready-to-print version of the Texas Lawyer’s Creed. You need it to give to your clients and now you can print it out whenever you want.

Business Organizations - We're adding the option to identify ownership interest either as a percentage or as a unit for several Limited Partnership and LLC documents.

Criminal Defense - We're adding the Harris County Occupational License Case Information Sheet.

Family Law - We'll include the updated National Medical Support Notice and Inquiry on Court of Continuing Jurisdiction.

Landlord-Tenant - We're adding a new Motion and Order for Substituted Service.

Litigation - We're adding two new forms: the Request for Copy of Driver’s Crash Report and a Notice of Appeal. We are also adding the most current version of the Request for Copy of Peace Officer’s Crash Report.

Probate - We're adding a new option in our Application for Letters of Administration, the Proof of Death and the Order Granting Letters for the probate of a will. The option will apply in situations in which an executor is named and independent administration would seem to be indicated, but a dependent administration is required for other reasons.

You will also receive updates for our Guardianship, Real Estate, and Small Estate Wills volumes.

Tech Tip: Organizing Emails Among Your Multiple Devices

If you read your email on multiple devices: a desktop computer at work, a laptop computer at home, a smartphone other times; you're probably fretting over keeping them all synced. Ideally, when you receive or reply to an email on one, it should be reflected in all. But, that's probably not the case for you right now.

However, a recent enhancement at Google™, IMAP, now makes this synchronization a snap. You first need to set up a Google mail account at mail.google.com.
