Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

hmtoggle_folder1What is the purpose of the ProDoc Certification Program?

The program enables individuals to earn certification as evidence of being highly proficient with ProDoc.  This credential increases the certified user's worth to law firms who subscribe to ProDoc.  The Certification Program also provides an excellent directed practice program to ensure current subscriber staff will gain experience with advanced ProDoc software operations. This is an outstanding training program for any ProDoc user.

hmtoggle_folder1Who is eligible for certification?

Essentially, anyone with access to the software.  Staff of ProDoc subscriber firms and students at schools which provide the software, but don't offer a ProDoc course, are eligible.  A related program for students taking a ProDoc course at a college or business school is covered in detail here.

hmtoggle_folder1What are the requirements for Subscriber Staff to begin the Attorney Sponsored Self-study program for certification?

Subscriber staff must have a firm attorney agree to be a sponsor and proctor for the exam.

hmtoggle_folder1What are the requirements for Students to begin the School Sponsored Self-study program for certification?

Students must find a school willing to allow the student to use their ProDoc software, agree to provide a school sponsor and provide a proctor for the exam.

hmtoggle_folder1How does a Subscriber Staff member get certified?

Download the Curriculum Manual and work through it.  Arrange for a firm attorney to be a sponsor and proctor.  Complete the registration form.  Ask the attorney to complete the sponsor form.  Pass the certification exam and receive the certificate from the sponsor.

hmtoggle_folder1How do Students get certified?

You will need access to ProDoc software provided by your school. If you are not yet affiliated with a school that provides ProDoc software, click the links to see a list of participating schools in Texas and in Florida. If you are affiliated with a school that does not offer ProDoc software, have the school official contact us at (800) 759-5418 or email our Education Department by clicking here.

Download the Curriculum Manual and work through it.  Arrange for the school to provide a sponsor.  Complete the registration form.  Ask the school sponsor to complete the sponsor form.  Pass the certification exam and receive the certificate from the sponsor.

hmtoggle_folder1What must Sponsors do?

Sponsors, whether a school official or a law firm attorney, must agree to sponsor the candidate, proctor the candidate's exam and certify that the candidate will not receive outside assistance when taking the exam.  Sponsors also must complete a registration form. School Certification Sponsorship Instructions and Subscriber Sponsor Instructions are somewhat different and use separate forms; click the foregoing links to see the appropriate guidance.

Sponsors must also agree to become ProDoc's point of contact for the candidate.  Sponsors will request the Certification Exam; proctor the exam; receive the certification certificate from ProDoc; and present it to the successful candidate.

hmtoggle_folder1 What are the differences between the Attorney Sponsored Self-study and School Sponsored Self-study, and why are these different?

Students enrolled in ProDoc courses at colleges/business schools can earn certification in ProDoc, state PowerPacks and the Small Office Suite (click here to see more information on this program).  Students sponsored by schools can earn the same certification if the PowerPack and SOS software is provided by their school. If these additional programs are not available, then students may only earn certification for the ProDoc program.  Currently, staff of subscriber firms may only earn certification for the ProDoc program since firm subscription packages can vary widely.

hmtoggle_folder1Tell me more about the Curriculum Manuals.

The Curriculum Manuals are designed to prepare new ProDoc users for the exam and build knowledge through targeted exercises. The curriculum is state-specific. It is organized into 15 modules with exercises. Each module requires approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour of work and includes a short quiz.

The self-study Curriculum Manuals are designed to help candidates learn the same material as those in the classroom versions. The classroom versions (not available here) are different only in viewpoint of the text. Three of the fifteen chapters cover each state's PowerPacks and the Small Office Suite program, which are not used for basic ProDoc certification. However, these chapters are included for candidates who have access to the programs and want to develop their skills with these programs.

hmtoggle_folder1How do I access the Curriculum Manual?

Click the link for the Curriculum Manual download page.  You can read this online or download a PDF file.

hmtoggle_folder1Is completion of the curriculum mandatory for certification?

No.  However, it is unlikely that a candidate will earn certification unless the candidate works through the curriculum and studies the reference material listed in the curriculum manual.

hmtoggle_folder1How is the Certification Exam arranged and delivered?

Sponsors request the exam when the candidate feels prepared to take it.  ProDoc will schedule the exam and provide a login and password to the Sponsor.  The Sponsor provides this to the candidate.  The candidate will take the exam online.

hmtoggle_folder1What are the characteristics of the Exam?

It consists of 100 or more multiple choice questions and demonstration questions.  84 percent is the passing grade.  The questions are designed to ensure the candidate can demonstrate knowledge of all basic ProDoc functions and can perform and explain many advanced functions. The questions are based upon program practical experience, the Curriculum Manual, ProDoc Software Manual and the ProDoc Help System.

Candidates are not allowed to receive help on the exam.  All exams are set up for two attempts over a three-day period.  The exam may be taken on the first and third days of the scheduled period.  The separate exam attempts will cover the same basic material, but will not be exact duplicates.  The questions, answers and order will be reconfigured.

Grades are given to the candidate immediately after the exam is finished and include pass or fail status.

hmtoggle_folder1What happens if a candidate doesn't pass?

If a candidate doesn't pass the first exam attempt, the candidate can wait one day and take it again.  If the candidate doesn't pass on the second attempt, the candidate will have to wait 30 days, study and work more with ProDoc, then ask the sponsor to request another exam.

hmtoggle_folder1If the candidate passed the Exam, how does the candidate get a certificate?

The sponsor will receive the certificate from ProDoc by mail and present it to the candidate.

hmtoggle_folder1Does ProDoc keep a record of certification?

ProDoc will maintain certification records indefinitely and can help if a certificate is lost or inadvertently destroyed.
